Jeffery D. Long is Professor of Religion and Asian Studies at Elizabethtown College, located in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, where he has taught since receiving his doctoral degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School in the year 2000.  He is the author of A Vision for Hinduism, Jainism: An Introduction, and the Historical Dictionary of Hinduism, as well as co-editor of the Buddhism and Jainism volumes of the Springer Encyclopedia of Indian Religions, and editor of the volume Perspectives on Reincarnation: Hindu, Christian, and Scientific.  Dr. Long is also the editor of the series Explorations in Indic Traditions: Ethical, Philosophical, and Theological, for Lexington Books.  In 2018, he received the Hindu American Foundation’s Dharma Seva Award for his ongoing efforts to promote more accurate and sensitive portrayals of Hindutraditions in the American education system and popular media.  He has spoken in a wide array of national and international venues, including meetings of the American Academy of Religion; university venues, including Berkeley, Princeton, Yale, and the University of Chicago; Vedanta Societies and Hindu temples; and three times at the United Nations.
