National Seminar on Literature and Society – The Madura College

In its constant endeavor to support Literary events, the Indic Academy Center for Indic Writers are pleased to support the two day national seminar on Literature and Society organized by The Madura College, Madurai on – January 24 & 25 2019.

The Madura College is one of the oldest academic institutions in Madurai with over 125 years of existence. The college was established in 1889 and is a Tamil Nadu state government aided college affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University. The seminar is being hosted by the Department of English, which is one of most prestigious faculties of the College and has been around since the inception in 1889.

The college offers undergraduate courses in eight disciplines, postgraduate course in four disciplines, M.Phil. Course in two disciplines and a postgraduate diploma course in Computer Applications in the self-financing stream of the college. Five departments of the college are recognized as research centers by the Madurai Kamaraj University.

The inaugural address is set to be given by Dr. Kuldip Chand Agnihotri, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh. This is to be followed by two special lectures by – DR. Sudhir Kumar, Professor, Department of English, Punjab University on the topic of ‘Indian Writing in English’ & Aravind Janardhan, educationalist from Nagpur on ‘Values in Literature’.

Day I seminar sessions on 24th Jan are:

•Lecture by Dr Anand Kumar, Professor and Head, Dept of Reproductive Biology on the topic – Sri Aurobindo
•Lecture by Dr B.S. Harishankar, Archeologist from Kerala on the topic – History and Literature

Day II seminar sessions on 25th Jan are:

•Lecture by Aravindan Neelakandan, Contributing Editor at Swarajya on Cultural Studies
•Lecture by Shri Jatayu, Writer from Bangalore on Indic Civilizational Consciousness in Modern Literature
•Lecture by Dr. T. Athithan, Associate Professor, Dept. of Rare Paper Manuscripts, Tamil University Thanjavur on Indic Vision in Literary & Manuscript Studies
•Lecture by Dr. Gita Ravi, Associate Professor & HOD English(Retd.) at Fatima College, Madurai on Challenging Euro-Centrism-Post Colonial Studies
•Lecture by Dr. Kanagaraj Easwaran, Professor Dept. of Social Work at Mizoram University on Religion and Society in Folklore/ Literary Studies
•Lecture by Dr. Ravi Saxena, Assistant Professor, Dept of Political Science at KPM School of Law, NMIMS University on Sabaltern and Cultural Studies
•Lecyure by Dr. S. Jayakumar, Educationalist, Founder IHAR on Indian Culture
