About Param Pujya Swamiji:
Swami Dayananda Saraswati is a beloved Guru and philosopher from the Vedanta tradition. He is known for his thoughts on the inclusivity of Hindu philosophy and the importance of spiritual and religious diversity. His understanding of modern audiences has taken the message of Vedanta all over the world, to young students and new teachers everywhere. Apart from guiding teachers and shishyas alike, Swami Dayananda Saraswati is remembered for his philanthropic activities. He started AIM for Seva (All India Movement for Seva), which works to take medical, educational, nutritional and infrastructural assistance to the remotest corners of the country. Swamiji also convened the first ever World Congress for the Preservation of Religious Diversity and went on to lead a global commission under the same name, which was inaugurated in Bangkok in 2002. Swami Dayananda Saraswati also played a role in the formation of the Women’s Global Peace Initiative, which convened at the United Nations in Geneva in 2002.
Today, he is remembered fondly for his teachings and philanthropic work by shishyas and volunteers world over. This memorial lecture is a humble tribute to the great Guru.

About the Speaker:
Swaminathan Gurumurthy, a well known writer and journalist in India, is a chartered accountant by profession and a respected corporate adviser. Known for his investigative writings, he has tirelessly campaigned against corruption in high places, exposing bribery in the Bofors arms deal, and bringing to light the nexus between the government and corporations. The issues raised by Gurumurthy became important election talking points. Hamish McDonald, a well-known Australian journalist, wrote in his book ‘Polyester Baron’, that Gurumurthy’s investigative work ‘must rank among the most powerful examples of investigative journalism anywhere in the world’, emphasising that Gurumurthy had ‘a strong sense of probity’. Business Baron magazine rated Gurumurthy’s knowledge of economics, finance and accounts as ‘outstanding’. In his biography on the media baron Ramnath Goenka, BG Verghese, a highly respected editor and writer, described Gurumurthy as a ‘brilliant chartered accountant and exceedingly astute amateur lawyer’. Gurumurthy is the Visiting Faculty of IIT Bombay in the domains of Economic, Financial and Management. He is also the Distinguished Professor Legal Anthropology in Sastra University. Gurumurthy has been ranked amongst the 50 most powerful persons by Gentleman Magazine in 1990, 8th most powerful person by Business Baron in 2004, 17th most powerful person by India Today in 2005, 50th most powerful person by India Today in 2015, 25th most powerful person by India Today in 2016 and 30th most powerful person by India Today in 2017.
Despite this, under the spiritual guidance of sages like Sankaracharya Chandrasekarendra Saraswati of Kanchi Kamakodi Peetham, he has kept away from all positions of power offered to him by different governments, corporates and other institutions.
